How is Simon introduced in Lord of the Flies?
Simon is the most mysterious character in Lord of the Flies. He is first introduced as a member of Jack's choir, and he faints when they meet with Ralph and Piggy. He is described as 'a skinny, vivid little boy, with a glance coming up from under a hut of straight hair that hung down, black and coarse'.
The head speaks to Simon in the voice of the “Lord of the Flies,” ominously declaring that Simon will never be able to escape him, for he lies within all human beings. He also promises to have some “fun” with Simon.
To start with, his name is Simon, which happens to be the name of one of the twelve apostles. Simon started out as Simon until Jesus decided really his name should be "Peter" instead, because "peter" means rock—and Simon was the "rock" on which Jesus would build his church.
In a sense, Simon's murder is an almost inevitable outcome of his encounter with the Lord of the Flies in Chapter 8. During the confrontation in the previous chapter, the Lord of the Flies foreshadows Simon's death by promising to have some “fun” with him.
Introduction to Simon's Death
He was put to death by people in his community for spreading the word of God. In William Golding's Lord of the Flies, the character of Simon is also put to death while trying to spread knowledge to the other boys on the island.
In a way, Simon represents the future ideal personality of Golding. Therefore, Simon stands higher than any other characters. Simon represents saintliness and a kind of innate, spiritual human goodness that is deeply connected with nature and, in its own way, as primal as Jack's evil instinct.
Jack and his boys successfully kill a pig. After they kill it, they impale its head on a stick. At the end of chapter 8 of Lord of the Flies, Simon encounters the impaled pig's head, which becomes 'The Lord of the Flies' to Simon and begins to speak to Simon.
His body is swept out to the ocean after the dead pilot's: "[S]urrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simon's dead body moved out toward the open sea." Chapter 9, pg. 140.
The Lord of the Flies tells Simon that he'd better run off and play with the others, who think that he is crazy. The Lord of the Flies claims that the Beast is not "something you can hunt and kill," but rather, is within each human - the evil, savage, side of human nature.
Simon is small and skinny with a pointed chin. He has black hair, bright eyes and tans easily. He is considered strange or odd by the others as he is rather shy and secretive. He has a habit of going off on his own which sets him apart and he is also not physically strong.

Piggy is a fat, shy twelve-year-old boy who has asthma; he is the only one who knows how to correctly pronounce asthma. The other boys on the island pronounce it as "ass-mar". Piggy wears "specs".

Chapter 3 Simon helps Ralph build huts. Ralph describes him as “queer” and “funny”. He is small and thin with dark hair and eyes, and he helps the smaller boys reach food. He has devised a secret place to hide under vines in the forest.
